Community Guidelines
Not medical advice. Condition Connect is for education, community, and personal organization related to inherited retinal diseases. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Our purpose
Condition Connect is a place for people affected by inherited retinal disease (IRD), low vision, and related conditions—and for the families, caregivers, friends, and professionals who support them—to learn, share experience, and stay organized.
These Community Guidelines explain how we expect people to treat each other. They sit alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If something is not allowed under the Terms, it is not allowed here either.
Invitation-only
Condition Connect is invitation-only. Community and chat features are available to activated invitees. Treat other members’ privacy with care; do not forward private conversations outside the Service without consent.
Who belongs here
- People living with IRD or related vision conditions
- Family members and caregivers
- Friends and supporters
- Clinicians, researchers, advocates, and other professionals who participate respectfully
Age
- The Service is not directed at children under 13.
- Users 13–17 may have accounts with age-appropriate protections (for example, teen-only spaces and limits on unsolicited adult private messages).
- Adults must not attempt to evade age rules or pressure teens to bypass safety settings.
Core principles
- Respect — Treat others with dignity. IRD journeys differ; no one owes you their full medical story.
- Honesty — Represent yourself accurately. Do not pretend to be a clinician, researcher, or organization if you are not.
- Privacy — Share carefully. Other people’s health details are not yours to publish.
- Education, not care delivery — Share experience and resources; do not diagnose, prescribe, or claim Condition Connect is a medical device.
- Safety — No harassment, exploitation, or content that puts others at risk.
Be kind and constructive
Do
- Welcome newcomers and allow people to learn at their own pace.
- Disagree without personal attacks.
- Use clear language; many members use screen readers or low-vision displays.
- Label opinion as opinion (“this helped my family,” not “this is the only treatment”).
- Correct mistakes gracefully when someone points them out.
Don’t
- Insult, demean, or mock anyone—including about disability, vision, genetics, race, religion, gender, sexuality, age, or family structure.
- Dogpile, pile-on, or encourage others to harass someone.
- Threaten, intimidate, stalk, or encourage self-harm or violence.
- Use slurs or dehumanizing language.
Health, research, and medical talk
Community is for lived experience and education, not clinical care.
Do
- Share your own experience, questions, and what you learned from your care team.
- Link to reputable sources when you can.
- Encourage others to confirm information with their own clinicians.
- Say “I’m not a doctor” when giving personal perspective.
Don’t
- Present yourself as diagnosing someone else.
- Tell someone to start, stop, or change medication or treatment without framing it as something to discuss with their clinician.
- Market unproven cures, “miracle” therapies, or paid medical schemes.
- Imply that Condition Connect, Mira, or any AI answer is a clinical decision tool.
- Misrepresent credentials (for example, claiming to be an ophthalmologist or genetic counselor if you are not).
Professionals: identify your role honestly. Do not use the community as an unlicensed clinic or to solicit patients in ways that violate law or professional ethics.
Privacy and sensitive information
Your information
- You choose what to post. Community content may remain visible to others even after you leave a conversation; account deletion may leave anonymized shared content for other participants (see Privacy Policy).
- Prefer first names or handles when talking about family members who are not themselves using the app.
Others’ information
- Do not share someone else’s private medical details, documents, images, contact information, or location without clear permission.
- Do not post photos or files that include other people without appropriate consent, especially minors.
- Chart access, caregiver invites, and clinical files belong in Track / access controls—not public community posts.
Minors (13–17)
- Protect teen privacy. Adults must not pressure teens for personal details, photos, or private contact outside the app.
- Teen-only areas are for teens. Adults must not attempt to access or game those spaces.
- Default rules limit adults starting private chats with teens; respect opt-in settings and patient-group boundaries.
Messaging and communities
Communities
- Stay roughly on topic for the community you are in.
- No spam, repeated advertising, or off-topic flooding.
- Commercial posts (products, fundraising, recruiting) should be transparent; we may limit solicitation.
Chat and direct messages
- Consent matters. Do not spam people who have not invited contact.
- Adults messaging teens: follow product rules (opt-in / shared patient group).
- Do not use chat to coerce, groom, or exploit anyone.
- Voice notes, photos, location, and contacts are optional attachments—only share what you intend others to receive.
Content we do not allow
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Harassment & hate | Targeted abuse, threats, hate based on protected characteristics |
| Sexual exploitation | Sexual content involving minors; non-consensual sexual content |
| Illegal activity | Fraud, trafficking, clear incitement to crime |
| Graphic harm | Content that glorifies violence or self-harm; suicide encouragement |
| Scams & spam | Phishing, fake trials, multilevel marketing dumps, mass unsolicited DMs |
| Impersonation | Fake accounts of real people, clinics, or organizations |
| Security abuse | Hacking attempts, scraping at scale, malware |
| IP theft | Posting copyrighted material you do not have rights to share |
| Medical misconduct framing | Presenting CC as diagnosis/treatment delivery; dangerous medical misinformation presented as fact with intent to harm |
We may act on content that violates these Guidelines even if it is not listed above when it undermines safety or trust.
AI features (Mira and related tools)
- Mira and other AI features are educational helpers, not clinicians.
- Do not paste other people’s private clinical documents into shared spaces.
- Do not use AI outputs to pressure others (“the AI said you must…”).
Reporting and enforcement
How to report
- Use in-app reporting tools where available.
- Or email support@conditionconnect.ai (or hello@conditionconnect.ai) with what happened, where (community, chat, post), approximate time, and screenshots if safe to share.
- If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
What we may do
Depending on severity and history, we may remove or hide content; warn an account; limit features; suspend or permanently terminate an account; or report illegal activity to authorities when required.
Appeals
If you believe we made a mistake, email support@conditionconnect.ai with “Community Guidelines appeal” in the subject line and a short explanation.
Changes
We may update these Community Guidelines. We will show a “Last updated” date on this page. Continued use of community and chat features after changes means you accept the updated Guidelines.
